Missing Files

Whether or not you purposefully added a non-image file to your fusker collection you are likely to encounter situations where image references in your fusker collection are invalid or not images. This can happen for many different reasons, but here are a few common instances which can cause this to happen:

In these cases you will see something similar to the following:

This is another case where Image Surfer Pro makes surfing for images safer – had you tried to directly reference this file outside of the Image Surfer Pro application, you could have been directed to a harmful URL, even one that could Have exposed your system to identity theft. The name of the file reference will also be included to help identify what portion of the fusker collection is generating the invalid reference.

While missing files are of little consequence in viewing the fusker collection they should be avoided because even accidently clicking the link could expose you to harmful or undesired content. In addition each missing file reference causes a hosting server error event which initiates tracking. In some cases your IP address may be temporarily or permanently blocked from accessing the domain. Therefore it is in your best interest to try and not generate missing file references and to eliminate any from fusker collections you utilize.

Utilizing the Image Surfer Pro Forms or auomtated page processing capabilities of Image Surfer Pro will help keep you from creating references to missing files as both techniques reference only files which are known to exist (as they were contained in pages already accessed).

In other cases, careful examination of site information around the images may provide an indication of how many images are stored on the site - enabling you to set the auto range size correctly with the Auto Range Override tool bar extension before creating the fusker collection entry.

Obviously changing the start or end values of a numerical fusk will remove references to missing files at the beginning or end of the sequence easily enough. A simple use of Image Surfer Pro Forms can be used to remove missing file references in the middle of a numerical fusk:

Using this technique will convert the numerically fusked file definition to a list fusked file which does not contain the references to the missing files.

Universal yellow triangle with ! WARNING! Clicking on a dead image reference may take you to a harmful website – these “missing” files are often embedded in Adult sites to install spyware on your system. Do not click on a dead image link unless you are sure where the link leads and trust the content provider.

Universal yellow triangle with ! WARNING! Nudging a numeric fusked file to add an image to the fusk causes IE to navigate directly to the URL of the "new" image. If that file does not exist or you are denied direct access to the file, the navigation may take you to a server error page and could be as harmful as clicking on a missing file link.
